Colorado football is gearing up for the 2026 season, hoping for a bounce-back year after posting a 3-9 record in 2025.
Whether a turnaround occurs depends on how well the 40-plus transfer additions gel. Several of those players were elite performers at their previous program and come to CU hoping to prove their talent at the Power Four level before moving on to the NFL.
College football writer Phil Steele named his top-rated draft-eligible prospects, sorting them by position, and several Buffs made the cut.
Unsurprisingly, Colorado has two wideouts on Steele's top draft-eligible list. Danny Scudero lands at No. 22 overall, and DeAndre Moore Jr. comes in at No. 45. Both project as the Buffaloes top two options.
Talented centers are hard to come by, but make a huge difference when you have one. Colorado hopes they landed one in the Houston transfer, Demetrius Hunter. He ranks as Steele's No. 39 center nationally.
Bell is a surprising addition to Steele's list, coming in at No. 57. The former California Golden Bear will compete for one of the starting tackle spots.
Tulane transfer defensive end Santana Hopper was named the No. 35 defensive end, and Toby Anene landed at No. 73. As for defensive tackles, Ezra Christensen was No. 65 nationally.
Linebacker Gideon Lampron made Steele's list at No. 52, as did Texas transfer Liona Lefau at No. 37. Colorado should have a significantly improved linebacker unit led by Lampron and Lefau.
Tennessee transfer defensive back Boo Carter made Steele's list of top cornerbacks, coming in at No. 19 nationally, with a note that Carter should see plenty of time at the slot corner position. Naeten Mitchell, who projects as the Buffaloes' starting free safety, was on the cornerback list at No. 60.
