Are you ready for some Spartans Big Ten Tournament basketball? Because it's finally here on Friday night.
Michigan State basketball will tipoff their time at the Big Ten Tournament in Chicago on Friday night as the final game of the quarterfinals. The Spartans will play No. 6 seed UCLA in this matchup, with a trip to the semifinals on Saturday afternoon on the line.
Michigan State comes into Friday night's tilt as the No. 3 seed off a triple-bye in the Big Ten Tournament. The Spartans lost their regular season finale at rival Michigan last week, but finished with an impressive 25-6 overall record and 15-5 mark in Big Ten play.
UCLA comes into this matchup off a relatively convincing win over No. 14 seed Rutgers on Thursday night. That win improved the Bruins to 22-10 overall on the year and further cemented their spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Michigan State and UCLA only met once during the regular season, with the Spartans making easy work of the Bruins in the lone meeting. The Spartans beat the Bruins by more than 20 points in a February meeting from the Breslin Center.
Prepare for this game by checking out the television info and my game prediction below:
Date / Tip Time: Friday, March 13 at approximately 9 p.m. ET
TV: Big Ten Network
Prediction: Michigan State 74, UCLA 67
This is going to be a defensive grinder, with both teams considered two of the better defensive teams in the league. I fully anticipate this meeting to be closer than the earlier one this season, as Michigan State simply won't shoot lights out again like they did at the Breslin Center in February. But, the nature of this battle will benefit the Spartans as I expect UCLA to wear down towards the end of the second half with this being their second game in two days. Michigan State pulls away late for the victory and moves on to the semifinals.
