A key Michigan State target has revealed his commitment date, which could either be a good sign or a bad sign for the Spartans based on the date.
Dominic Black of New Madison, Ohio will announce his college decision on June 10, with the following schools considered finalists in his recruitment: Michigan State, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. The commitment date of June 10 is notable because he is currently scheduled to visit Michigan State that following weekend of June 12 - 14.
Black is a four-star offensive lineman, with a recruiting rating of 92.71 in 247Sports' composite system. He ranks as the No. 18 offensive tackle and No. 125 overall prospect in 247Sports' rankings for the 2027 class. He is also listed as the No. 5 player from Ohio in the class.
Black holds offers nearly 40 schools, but the five listed finalists -- including Michigan State -- have pulled away in his recruitment. Black visited Indiana in mid-May and is set to take an official visit to Kentucky this upcoming weekend. Michigan State was next on the list of schools to host him for an official visit on June 12.
With Black's commitment set between visits to Kentucky and Michigan State, it's unclear to know which way he may be leaning at the moment. Typically, you don't see a player of Black's nature and where he is in his recruitment announce a commitment to a school without taking an official visit -- so that would be bad news for the Spartans. The other side of the coin would be that he's ready to lock in his decision ahead of his upcoming visit to Michigan State and would still take the trip following a commitment a few days earlier. If you're asking me, though, I would fear its the first of those two scenarios, meaning he'll end up at one of his other finalists over the Spartans.
Either way, we should have an indication in the next week of which way he's leaning based on the recruiting insiders. And at the worst, we'll know within nine days when he announces his official commitment.
