We now have a better indication of the Spartans' 2025-26 Big Ten schedule.
The official Michigan State basketball schedule won't be released for a few months, but on Tuesday we get some insight to who and where the Spartans will be playing in Big Ten play next season. The home/away opponents draw for Big Ten play was released on Tuesday, along with who the Spartans will play twice (both home and away) next year.
Here is a breakdown of the Big Ten schedule draw for Michigan State:
Home Only:
Away Only:
Home and Away:
Official dates and times for all of these Big Ten matchups will be released at a later date.
It's hard to come up with a firm-stance opinion on the schedule since there are still plenty of unknowns surrounding each of these Big Ten teams and our Spartans. But on first glance, I'd say it's a tough but manageable draw for the Spartans.
Road games at Purdue, Wisconsin, Oregon, Michigan and Indiana will be especially tough as those are five of the top 10 teams in my way-too-early Big Ten power rankings I released last week. But on the flip side, you will also get the benefit of hosting UCLA, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio State and USC. So it's really a straight split (based on my initial early rankings).
In comparison to this past season, I'd say things are slightly better on the rotation of who Michigan State will play twice in league play. Michigan, of course, remains the same, but you replace Illinois with Indiana and Minnesota with Rutgers. I'd consider those both positives for the Spartans -- but keeping in mind that Michigan State is probably a step behind last year's Spartans squad (as things stand now).
Overall, the schedule is fair with how the league currently is shaping up with six months to go before we tip off the 2025-26 season.
