Missouri Southern State University and rival Pittsburg State University square off several times this week.

The annual Rumble in the Jungle invitational track and field event takes place Friday.

The men's and women's basketball teams meet Saturday at the John Lance Area.

Rumble in the Jungle

Field events are set to start at 12:30 p.m. Friday, with track events beginning at 2 p.m. in the Robert W. Plaster Center.

The Lions also will send some shot putters to Saturday's Bob Teel Invitational to compete at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the University of Missouri.

MIAA doubleheader

The women play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

MSSU women beat Rogers State University 66-62 Saturday at the Claremore Expo Center in Claremore, Oklahoma.

The Lions (13-4, 7-1 MIAA) are now tied for first in the MIAA after their fourth straight win. PSU and Fort Hays State University are also 7-1 in MIAA action. The Gorillas are on a three-game win streak.

Rogers State is now 6-11 overall and 3-5 in the MIAA.

Nariah Clay scored 14 points for Southern Saturday, including two 3-pointers. She has now posted 10 or more points in five straight contests, according to Southern. Lilly Thomas also scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Makenna Yokley and Ashlyn Alloway were each in double digits, with 10 points apiece.

The PSU women are 14-3 overall.

The men play at 3:30 p.m.

The men fell to Rogers State 68-55 Saturday at the Claremore Expo Center.

The Lions (9-8, 3-5 MIAA) led by 4 points at halftime, but RSU (11-6, 5-3 MIAA) jumped ahead in the second half on a 38-point push, according to MSSU.

Gavyn Elkamil scored 17 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Lions. Jaden Taylor was the only other Lion in double digits, adding 13 points.

The Gorillas are 11-7 and one of six teams tied for second place in the MIAA at 5-3, with Fort Hays State University (8-0) leading.
