The month of May has not treated Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop, Mookie Betts, well.

Since his return from the Injured List with a right oblique strain on May 11, Betts has produced a slashline of .167/.216/.313 and an OPS of .528.

He's only logged in eight hits throughout his last 48 at-bats with two RBI and a pair of home runs.

This lack of production comes at a time when the Dodgers have picked themselves up from a slump of their own and have transcended to winners of the last 10 of 12 games they've played.

Following the Dodgers' come-from-behind series-opening win against the Colorado Rockies on Monday, Dave Roberts got honest about Betts' play during the postgame scrum.

"Obviously, he's not confident in his swing or mechanics," Roberts said. "The mechanics is one thing, but I think a little bit is overthinking, trying too hard, anxious."

Though he did record a sacrifice fly in the win, Betts went 0-3 on the night. Roberts still noted that, despite the mechanical miscues, he liked the fight from Betts late in the game.

"I think in that last at-bat, you could just see just him fighting, and he was going to will himself to drive in that run. It was good to see."

Interestingly, Roberts compared Betts' recent skid at the plate to how the rest of the team performed during their slump just a few short weeks ago.

"I think that's exactly where he's at right now."

Heading into Tuesday potential series winner, Roberts made some changes in the starting lineup. More specifically, he moved down Betts from the two-hole down to the clean up spot.

Roberts noted that the change in position in the batting order was that Betts could have the opportunity to have a different look during his at-bats.

“He’s grinding right now," Roberts said.

Roberts made the correlation of his up-and-down performance being linked to his limited at-bats during Spring Training. Along with that —since he came back from his oblique injury— he has not found any groove at the plate, despite telling Roberts that he was good to come back.

Still, Roberts put a point of emphasis that Betts is doing everything he can to get back on track.

"He's working hard. Him and the hitting guys are working through it. He'll find a way to get out of it, it sort of happens with him every year."
