DIVISION 2 AT JEFFERSON

Jefferson 58, Flat Rock 47

NEWPORT – Grady Brooks gave Jefferson a spark with 8 points off the bench.

“Grady Brooks had his best game as a Bear,” Jefferson coach Corey Wiley said.

Jefferson, which added to its school record victory total by improving to 18-5, got 16 points from Trey Oldenburg, 12 from Luke Beaudrie and 11 from Hunter Barton.

Flat Rock’s Jordan Godfrey tied Oldenburg for game high-scoring honors and Evan Szalay collected 10 points and 10 rebounds.

“Great effort by our guys especially after losing to them by over 30 twice this year,” said Flat Rock coach Rick Smith, whose team finished with a 9-15 record. “If we could have made a few more free throws and pulled down a few more rebounds it could have been a different result. Our team showed no quit”.

The Jefferson-Ida championship game will tip off at 6 p.m. Friday.

Ida 60, Grosse Ile 54

NEWPORT – Ida had a sizeable lead for much of the game, but Grosse Ile battled back to take a 47-46 lead in the fourth quarter.

The Blue Streak fought off the assault as Jacob Towne hit two important baskets in the fourth quarter.

“We have eight seniors and that really helped,” Ida coach Jared Karner said. “The biggest thing about this team is they want each other to succeed. We don’t have a standout. They are all very similar.”

Towne was a standout in this game with 22 and 14 rebounds.

Owen Snyder and Luke Hennessey netted 12 points each for the 16-7 Blue Streaks.

DIVISION 1 AT TRENTON

Huron 43, Gibratlar Carlson 38

TRENTON – Zennon Grant led a balanced New Boston Huron attack with 17 points.

Huron gave up just 25 points over the final three quarters combined.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our team tonight,” Huron coach Ted Tackett said. “This was a testament to who we’ve been all season; every player buys into defense and competes for all four quarters.”

The Chiefs take a 16-7 record into the finals at 7 p.m. Friday against Woodhaven.

Luke Sliwinski scored 12 points as Gibraltar Carlson finished the season with a 14-9 record.

Woodhaven 76, Bedford 49

TRENTON – Bedford’s season came to an end with a 9-15 record.

“They were on fire and hit 12 threes,” Bedford coach Nick Brillhard said.

Nick Coberley led Mules with 11 points and Evan Gartee notched 10.

DIVISION 3 AT ERIE MASON

Whiteford 54, Taylor Prep 41

ERIE – Whiteford, the No. 1 seed in the district, struggled, but advanced to the finals at 7 p.m. Friday.

“It was a rough game for us,” Whiteford coach Jordan Bollin said. “We didn’t play very well tonight. … Our bench was as the difference tonight.”

Caden Schroyer was the leader for the 20-3 Bobcats with 15 points and 15 rebounds.

“We had really good contributions from Keegan Thomas, Mason Luzier, Brody Hillard and Jess Saylor,” Bollin said. “Without them we might not have been able to pull it out for tonight. They brought a lot of energy and effort.”

Riverview Gabriel Richard 49, Erie Mason 32

ERIE – Erie Mason had a 14-10 lead after one quarter, but couldn’t manage any points in the second period.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t have it tonight,” Mason coach Isaac Skaggs said. “Got off to a solid start, but just couldn’t get anything going offensively for large stretches of the game. Proud of the effort, we battled just like we did all season, just got to be able to hit shots, handle ball pressure, and rebound and we didn’t do that for much of the game.”

David Sweeney scored 16 points and Logan Doom 10 for 11-12 Mason.

“The future is bright with the guys we have coming back and the guys we will have coming up from the JV team, but will also miss a great group of seniors,” Skaggs said.

DIVISION 4 AT MORENCI

Summerfield 47, Waldron 46

MORENCI – Brody St. John delivered a game-winning shot for Summerfield with 5 seconds remaining.

“It can’t always be pretty, and Waldron did a good job of uglying the game down but we were able to find a way to win,” Summerfield coach Phil Schiffler said. “I’m proud that the boys just stayed together throughout the game and played through the highs and lows.”

Aaron Hoffman led the 16-7 Bulldogs with 14 points, St John finished with 11 points and Rylee Schiffler collected 10 points and 5 steals.

Summerfield will play Lenawee Christian, a 73-43 winner over Britton Deerfield in the other semifinal, for the championship at 7 p.m. Friday. The teams split two games during the regular season.
