Monaco vs PSG: Match preview, predicted line-ups, team news, and prediction

Monaco face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League knockout round play-off first leg at Stade Louis II on Tuesday evening.

Monaco were held to a goalless draw by Juventus, missing out on automatic qualification to the round of 16.

PSG played out a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United, finishing two points outside the top eight of the league phase standings.

Match preview

Monaco finished 21st in the league phase standings, just one point above the elimination zone.

Despite their struggles, Les Monegasques have been difficult to beat in this competition, losing twice so far.

Sebastien Pocognoli’s side beat PSG 1-0 at home in November’s Ligue 1 clash and have won four of their last six home games against them.

Across 59 matches on their patch, Monaco have won 30, drawn 15, and lost 14 against the visitors

PSG lost 3-1 at Rennes in the league on Friday, failing to build on their 5-0 rout of rivals Marseille, highlighting their struggles for consistency this season.

Luis Enrique’s side are winless in their last three games in the competition, but are favourites for this clash.

Les Parisiens played in the play-offs en route to their triumph last term, but need to improve their performances to replicate that feat this season.

Team news

Goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky, Takumi Minamino, Mohammed Salisu, Kassoum Ouattara, Eric Dier, Paul Pogba, and Pape Cabral all sidelined for Monaco.

Lamine Camara, Ansu Fati and Maghnes Akliouche are doubts.

For PSG, Quentin Ndjantou and Fabian Ruiz will sit this one out.

Predicted line-ups

Monaco (4-2-3-1): Philipp Kohn, Vanderson, Thilo Kehrer, Jordan Teze, Caio Henrique, Denis Zakaria, Mamadou Coulibaly, Krepin Diatta, Aleksandr Golovin, Simon Adingra, Folarin Balogun.

PSG (4-3-3): Safonov; Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Nuno Mendes, Warren Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Joao Neves, Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Prediction

We fancy a 3-1 victory for PSG
