The San Antonio Spurs aim to begin a winning era this summer by adding as much talent around Victor Wembanyama as possible. While Dylan Harper seems to be the consensus pick second overall in the draft, the Spurs have been linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo as a possible blockbuster trade candidate.

The Milwaukee Bucks are not the only team expected to trade away some--or all--of their best talent this offseason. The Boston Celtics are well above the salary cap, and with Jayson Tatum staring down a long road to recovery from his Achilles injury, Boston could be sellers this offseason.

Almost everyone on the roster has a championship pedigree, and expensive contracts like those of Kristaps Porzingis, Derrick White, and Jrue Holiday could all be on the chopping block.

With plenty of young assets on reasonable contracts and draft picks to trade, the Spurs could make an offer for one of the Celtics' best players.

Full Mock Trade Details

Spurs receive: Jaylen Brown

Celtics receive: Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, 2025 first-round pick (#2 overall), 2027 first-round pick (via ATL), 2031 pick swap (via SAC)

The Spurs still have some draft picks after this deal, and the Celtics cut $7.1 million from next year's books, and Barnes is on the final year of his contract, allowing Boston to cut even more salary.

While losing Vassell and the second pick would hurt, the Spurs would have a title-worthy roster of De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Brown, Jeremy Sochan, and Victor Wembanyama next season.

Key bench players like Keldon Johnson, Julian Champagnie, possibly Chris Paul, whoever they draft 14th overall, and Blake Wesley would all be on the roster next season, giving the Spurs plenty of depth.

Brown has averaged a fairly efficient 24 points per game over the last three seasons and is one of the better defenders in the league.

His ball-handling is easily the worst part of his game, but Fox and Castle would be able to set him up for easier looks, and the Spurs simply have more facilitators than the Celtics.

Brown has already been extended through the next four seasons, and while juggling his salary, Fox and Wemby's assumed max extensions, and the rookie extensions for Sochan and Castle would be tough to juggle, the Spurs wouldn't have to offer him a new deal until he is nearing the end of his prime, making him a better long-term option than Antetokounmpo.
