Indianapolis Colts tight end Mo Alie-Cox is set to be a free agent this upcoming offseason.
So what might his next contract look like, and will the Colts re-sign him?
According to Spotrac, Alie-Cox is projected to earn a one-year deal in free agency worth $2.2 million.
In terms of player age, contract status, and statistical production, Demetrius Harris, Geoff Swaim, and Pharaoh Brown were used by Spotrac as comparisons to determine what Alie-Cox's deal could be.
This is one of those free agency decisions that could go either way.
On one hand, the Colts have Tyler Warren leading the way at this position, and I would assume that Drew Ogletree returns as a restricted free agent on a low-cost deal. He could fill that blocking-specific role like Alie-Cox does.
If things play out this way, depth will still be needed, but perhaps the Colts would choose to address that need in the draft by bringing in a younger, higher upside player. Alie-Cox is currently 32 years old.
With that said, retaining Alie-Cox provides the offense with a very steady presence. We know the role Alie-Cox will fill and that he'll do so reliably.
Considering that this is a one-year deal that won't break the bank, my early prediction is that he returns.
