With as decorated a program as Maryland men’s lacrosse, it was a matter of time before its former player received their flowers. Five former Terps were selected for Sunday’s PLL All-Star Game.

Two Terps will start for the Eastern Conference: Brett Makar and Ajax Zappitello. Makar, a defender for the New York Atlas, has excelled this season, causing 14 turnovers and corralling 24 ground balls in just six games. He graduated from Maryland in 2023 and donned the No. 1 in his senior season, starting 73 games over the course of his time in College Park.

Zappitello followed in Makar’s footsteps, wearing the coveted No. 1 the following year in his senior season. Zappitello remained in his alma mater’s state, however, as he was drafted by the Maryland Whipsnakes and has exceeded expectations from then on. He has caused 10 turnovers and secured 10 ground balls in the last six games.

Matt Dunn was also selected to play for the Eastern All-Stars. A 2016 graduate of Maryland, Dunn has posted solid numbers through five games while serving as a solid wingman to Zappitell on the Whipsnakes.

The only Terp starting for the Western Conference is 2022 Tewaaraton Award winner Logan Wisnauskas, who is often regarded as one of the best Maryland attackmen in program history. Wisnauskas has scored 14 goals through five games for the Denver Outlaws, drawing on his innate scoring abilities from his days at Maryland. He remains the Terp with the most career goals with 205 through four years in College Park.

Jared Bernhardt – Wisnauskas’ former teammate at Maryland and in Denver – has also posted solid attacking stats this season. Bernhardt has 10 goals through four games this season, but his numbers remain near the best on many career record lists for the Terps.

The PLL All-Star game will air on ESPN at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
