Maryland baseball’s mass exodus continued Monday as one of its most talented freshman joined more than 15 teammates in entering the transfer portal.

Bud Coombs, a native of Mechanicsville, Maryland, entered the transfer portal. He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining after hitting .360 with nine home runs and 36 RBIs.

TRANSFER: Maryland outfielder (and wide receiver) Bud Coombs has entered the portal. Missed most of the season due to injury, but was an elite recruiter. True centerfield tools.

No. 31 ranked prospect for the 2028 Draft.

Coombs committed to Maryland as a dual-sport athlete. He never featured for Maryland football after suffering a season-ending injury last summer, and given the timing of his transfer portal entry, it appears all but certain he will not play for the Terps in the fall.

According to reporting from Inside the Black and Gold, Coombs is expected to enter the portal as a baseball-only player. He will not look to play football at another school.

For right now, this leaves the Dirty Terps in a difficult spot as a program. More than half the roster has departed, and 10 incoming freshmen will not be enough to fill the gaps.

Here's a look at Maryland's growing list of transfer exits with the portal officially opening earlier today. The Terps have 20 players already in, losing over half their roster.
