The Philadelphia Phillies star launched a missile home run to tie the game in the eighth inning. Unfortunately, that homer didn’t do enough for the U.S. squad to hold off their South American opposition.
However, Harper’s home run only marks part of the story from the WBC final. That’s due to his actions postgame when many Team USA stars were visibly frustrated by the result of the game.
The veteran MLB slugger approached the Venezuela team and congratulated them on their historic World Baseball Classic title. Surely it isn’t something that every athlete would do under the circumstances, but it goes to show Harper’s class in the moment.
Team USA’s runners’ up finish marks the second straight WBC where America has fallen short in the final. In 2023, the Japanese team took down the USA in a dramatic 3-2 finish.
