With the first third of the MLB season behind us, teams are taking stock of their rosters and trying to decide if this could be their year or if they should be looking towards the future. Let’s take a look at all 30 teams and see where they rank in this week’s power rankings.

#30: Colorado Rockies. They have cratered to the bottom of the rankings thanks to a recent stretch where they dropped 8 of 10 games, including a 4-game losing streak. They are on pace to finish 50 games behind the Dodgers.
#29: Los Angeles Angels. It’s a shock that this franchise has never lost 100 games. If you project the rest of the season at their current pace, they will finish 62-100.
#28: Detroit Tigers. They just had to hold things together while Tarik Skubal got healthy. Since he went down, the team has gone 2-14 and has dropped from the top of the division to 10 games out. This season is slipping away, and it’s very likely Skubal will be moved at the MLB trade deadline.
#27: San Francisco Giants. They just keep sinking further behind the Dodgers and Padres every week. The team ranks in the bottom half of the league in almost all offensive and pitching statistics.
#26: Kansas City Royals. The AL Central was all bunched up about 3 weeks ago with all five teams right around .500. The Royals have gone 5-13 since then and have sunk almost as quickly as the Tigers.

#25: Boston Red Sox. Just when it looked like they were starting to show some pride, they stumbled and dropped 4 straight games. It looks like they will be selling at the MLB trade deadline.
#24: New York Mets. Don’t look now, but this team may actually have some pride. That’s what I said last week. We all took a look, and the Mets crumbled under the pressure, dropping 5 straight games.
#23: Houston Astros. They aren’t playing great, but they have won 6 of their last 10 games, and that’s good enough to keep them hanging around in the AL West, where none of the teams are currently playing winning baseball.
#22: Baltimore Orioles. The bats have woken up, but the pitching is still abysmal. If they can get some consistent starting pitching, they could crawl back to .500. In the AL, .500 ball will have you competing for a wild card spot.
#21: Miami Marlins. The Braves gave the rest of the division a break and have played .500 ball over the last week or so. The Marlins are still sitting in 4th place, over 10 games back. They tried to go with their young pitchers recently, but Robby Snelling was lost to TJS, Braxton Garrett was ineffective, and now Thomas White is injured as well.

#20: Toronto Blue Jays. They are creeping closer to the .500 mark. If they can get healthy, they may have a run in them, but that is a big “IF”.
#19: Texas Rangers. The team has been playing terribly, but they have actually moved up a bit in the AL West standings.
#18: Minnesota Twins. This team is still ranked in the middle of the pack in most offensive and pitching categories. There’s nothing about them that screams “post-season spoiler”, but if they keep hanging around, they may end up playing in the post-season.
#17: Seattle Mariners. They are closer to first place than they are to having a .500 record. That’s the AL West. Once the Mariners, Astros, or Rangers get their act together, one of these teams should pull away at some point.
#16: Chicago White Sox. They are keeping the party going by playing .500 ball. The team has some reinforcements coming from the minors, and that’s likely the only help they’ll be getting. I don’t see them acquiring anybody significant at the MLB trade deadline.
#15: Philadelphia Phillies. They settled down a bit after a hot streak got the team over .500. The division is probably out of reach, but the wild card isn’t.
#14: Washington Nationals. The Nats have one of the more exciting young offenses in the league, along with one of the worst pitching staffs. A recent 4-game winning streak, including taking 2 of 3 from the Braves, has them over .500 and in the mix for a Wild Card spot.
#13: Chicago Cubs. The Cubs have now added a 10-game losing streak to an MLB season where they have had not 1 but 2 10-game winning streaks. Despite their current losing streak, they are still above .500 and in the mix for a wild-card spot.
#12: Pittsburgh Pirates. The Bucs are still hanging tough in a tough division. At the year’s end, they very likely will have the top 3 finishers for both the Cy Young and Rookie of the Year Award on this roster. Hopefully, for their fans’ sake, they can keep some of this talent.
#11: Cincinnati Reds. Terry Francona has done a great job of keeping these guys playing hard despite some injuries and a shaky bullpen. They are very much in the thick of the tight division.

#10: St. Louis Cardinals. A recent 3-game losing streak has dropped them a bit behind the streaking Brewers. These Cards will hang around all year simply because of how hard they play and because they’re too young and dumb to realize they aren’t supposed to be competing yet.
#9: The Athletics. They are hanging onto 1st place for the time being. The story has been fun, but this team isn’t going to win the West with this roster, specifically this pitching staff. Mark Kotsay will win manager of the year if these guys can finish over .500.
#8: Arizona Diamondbacks. They have been red hot, winning 9 out of their last 10 games, led by Ketel Marte, who has been on an absolute tear. The NL West has quietly become a 3-team race as it’s the only division with 3 teams with over 30 wins.
#7: San Diego Padres. They’ve cooled a bit recently, but still are hanging tough in second place in the West. They need these bats to wake up, as they are still ranked in the bottom 3 of MLB in Batting Average, Slugging %, and On Base %.
#6: Cleveland Guardians. Cleveland has pulled away a bit in the AL Central. They have gone 16-9 in the month of May, while the rest of the division has been stuck below .500.

#5: Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers, like the Guardians, have put some distance between themselves and the rest of their fellow Central Division rivals. Kyle Harrison and Jacob Misioroski have formed one of the more potent 1-2 punches in MLB at the top of their rotation.
#4: New York Yankees. A recent 3-game winning streak has the Yanks back within 3 games of the division-leading Rays. Their +82 run differential is the best in the AL by a wide margin (Tampa is #2 at +33)
#3: Los Angeles Dodgers. It’s still business as usual in Los Angeles. Dave Roberts’ squad has a league-best +117 run differential, and they are leading the West by 3+ games thanks to a recent 4-game win streak.
#2: Tampa Bay Rays. They’ve cooled a bit thanks to a recent 3-game losing streak that has allowed the Yankees to get back within 3 games of the top spot in the East. The smoke and mirrors show that Kevin Cash continues to perform with this rotation, which has been working great, and the lineup has been solid, led by Junior Caminero, Yandy Diaz, and AL RBI Leader, Jonathan Aranda.
#1: Atlanta Braves. They still have the best record in MLB, so they get to keep the top spot for another week, at least. I’d still love to see them pick up a right-handed bat to complement Dom Smith and Mike Yastrzemski for Leftfield/DH.
