AEW and WWE are undoubtedly the two biggest organisations in professional wrestling today.
WWE remain the powerhouse of the sport, but with investment from Tony Khan and a stacked roster, AEW have built themselves into a viable alternative.
As you can imagine, with two huge promotions going head-to-head, there’s a fair amount of movement between companies in terms of talent.
The likes of Cody Rhodes, Jon Moxley, Daniel Bryan, Edge and even CM Punk have moved between both companies in recent years, while there’s always speculation around who could be next.
MJF is one of AEW’s biggest stars, and it’s fair to say he has flirted with WWE on more than one occasion. Now, speaking to Ariel Helwani, MJF has shared why he never made the move to WWE.

MJF shares why he didn’t join WWE
MJF spoke about his most recent contract renewal with AEW.
The superstar noted that his situation was very much up in the air with AEW in 2024, and while he didn’t officially confirm it, he nodded towards the fact he did speak to WWE around this time.
“It was very real. Just like I told you last time, it was pretty close,” MJF began.
“I signed (his AEW contract) before, but not well before. I can’t legally answer the question (if he spoke to WWE), but let’s use our brains, wouldn’t you want MJF on your roster?”
“Of course,” Helwani said.
“So there is your answer,’ The former world champion said.
“Was it tough?” Helwani asked.
“No, no, you have to know your worth and I know my worth and my worth was built because of the legacy that I’m building in AEW, right? There is something very enchanting to me. No matter how much money did, does or will get thrown at me, and trust me, it was a lot, hypothetically,” MJF added.
“It doesn’t matter because I care about my legacy more than anything.”
MJF rejected WWE due to the legacy he’s building in AEW, and that suggests he may never look to make the jump between companies.
The New Yorker is undoubtedly one of AEW’s biggest success stories in terms of developing their own talent, and he seems to want to go down as an all-time great in All Elite Wrestling.
Whether or not this conversation crops up again in the future remains to be seen, but at the age of just 30, MJF still has plenty of time to move to WWE and forge a new legacy away from AEW.
