Sidney Crosby’s injury update has left the Pittsburgh Penguins with mixed emotions during a crucial playoff push. The captain exited Thursday’s NHL game against the Ottawa Senators with a lower-body issue, and the team quickly ruled him out for the rest of the night.
According to Josh Yohe of “The Athletic,” there were both concerns and relief after the game.
“So, regarding Sid: • Bad news: He took himself out of the game, and the team immediately announced he was out for the night. • Good news: He appeared to be walking with no limp following the game. Didn’t appear to be wearing a brace of any kind.” Yohe wrote on X.

When asked if it was the same leg from a past Olympic issue, Yohe said it did not appear so, though he was not fully certain.
Crosby is now considered day-to-day, with his availability for Saturday’s game against the Dallas Stars unclear. The 38-year-old remains vital to Pittsburgh’s playoff hopes, leading the team with 64 points this season. His absence would leave a major gap down the middle, with Kevin Hayes a likely replacement if needed.
The situation becomes more complex as Evgeni Malkin also missed his second straight game with an upper-body injury against Ottawa. Malkin has 52 points in 50 appearances and remains day-to-day, adding further uncertainty to the lineup.
