Jun. 24—RAPID CITY — The final day of the 2026 South Dakota Golf Association Junior Championships will be one to remember for Asher Dannenbring.

The rising Mitchell High School senior shot a 4-under-par 68 on Wednesday, tied for the low round of any golfer in the three-day event for juniors age 16-18, to climb from ninth place into a three-way tie for first after 54 holes at the Golf Club at Red Rock.

But the work wasn't quite done, as Dannenbring then outlasted Sioux Falls' Carter Peterson and Vermillion's Rylan Moran to win the tournament title on the 10th hole of a sudden-victory playoff.

All three golfers had shot a three-day total of 219 strokes through the 54 holes of regulation. Peterson and Moran tied for second in the final standings.

The 28-hole final day triumph for Dannenbring marked the conclusion of a sizable comeback, as he was tied for 22nd after the opening round of play on Monday. Dannenbring's final round included seven birdies, as he was one of two golfers in the field of 55 boys to record two rounds of even-par or better during the tournament.

Sioux Falls' Drew Velasquez (220) ended up one shot back of the leaders in sole possession of fourth place. Harrisburg's Charlie Swift, the 2025 SDGA Junior champion from the tournament at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell, as well as Harrisburg's Connor Tank and Sioux Falls' Braxton Hollan, all ended at 221 strokes. Tank took fifth, with Hollan in sixth and Swift in seventh.

Tyndall's Michael Branaugh (270) tied for 48th, Reliance's Rederic Sazue (274) was 51st and Presho's Canyon Garnos (284) was 53rd among the Mitchell area golfers in the event.

Aberdeen's Olivia Braun claimed the SDGA Junior girls championship, shooting a three-day total of 221 strokes. During Wednesday's final round, Braun fired a 2-under 70, the only under-par round of the girls tournament, to hold off defending champion Rylan Horning, of Rapid City, who ended with 225 strokes.

Flandreau's Tori Peterson (227), Rapid City's Kaitlin Strain (228) and Watertown's Brynn Roehrich (231) rounded out the top five.

Mitchell's Anna Eliason (270) was 15th, while Mia Larson (272) was 17th out of the 20-golfer field.
