An Earl Weaver special to break the game open! | David Richard / Imagn Images
Twins have been Erie-bound, two games past:
Stumbled fast and they’d go down.
Weary-facing today, but coming to play,
Cleveland, we say: we’re in town.
They went down two,
But then look who
Came up with thunder:
A Larnach bomb into the sky,
A three-run blast from Lee is why
We know we’d all walk a thousand miles
To watch the Twins beat you
Tonight.
Still scary early on when they gave up two
And we wondered if they’d ever win again.
But Lee, a solid hit, and they didn’t quit;
Tied it up so we could grin again.
It was even:
We’re believin’,
And now the thunder:
A Jackson hit to take the lead,
Then Lee the drive to make them bleed.
We know we’d all walk a thousand miles
To watch the Twins beat you
Tonight.
So rise, rise, and cheer them as they go;
Rise, rise, and join the clamoring;
Rise, rise, for every swing and throw;
Rise, rise, glow.
Twins are still Erie-bound for the last
Game amassed that’ll go down.
Wearly? Not from today; they’re coming to play,
Cleveland, we say: we’re in town.
With every inning,
We hope for winning,
So bring the thunder:
Another bomb into the sky,
Another blast the reason why
We know we’d all walk a thousand miles
To watch the Twins beat you:
The Comment of the Game is Zach’s
For carefree times and lettuce tax.
(It made us all crack a thousand smiles;
If we could just eat you;
Alas, we must boil you
Tonight.)
*Disclaimer: the “you” in the last chorus refers to lettuce, not our staff writer.
