Bradley never claimed that he used the N Word. The Bradley never once said that, so whoever is claiming that is definitely making stuff up. You know Bradley would be the first to play the race card if he could. But he hasn't, so race is definitely not an issue.

So let me get this straight...

An umpire allegedly calls a player a name after taking verbal abuse from the player for 2 minutes. The umpire finally snaps (hey, they are human too) and says one disparraging sentence to Bradley.

That umpire is suspended for the season and post season. That doesn't seem fair. Players say all sorts of horrid things to umpires all the time. This guy may have slipped up once and he gets a worse suspension than a pitcher that throws at a guy's head (which is way worse IMO).

Why is this penalty so severe compared to what players get? Umpires are supposed to remain above the game, but everyone makes mistakes.

For just that reason. Umpires are authority figures and have a greater responsibility than players.

And, in reality, ballplayers and Managers are celebrities, who are expected to act like jocks. Umpires are not.

The umpire made a mistake and he's paying for it. So be it.

To be fair, I think the entire case should be stated. Milton Bradley argues EVERY time he is called out on strikes looking. He glares, berates, and shouts every friggin' time. Winters has undoubtedly been on the recieving end of more than one of Milton's whining tirades. So has the rest of his crew.

Fast forward to the game in question: Milton does it again and Winters has had enough. He says something. Professional or not, you can only take so much.

Meacham himself (the 1st base coach who was standing there) has publicly come out and said Winters really didn't say anything, he said Winters made one comment and that was it.

Bradley got what he deserved. Winters got thrown under the bus IMHO.

and this incident will come back to bite Bud "Lite" Selig on the ass later, like say Umps union contract time, but then I can imagine Bud and MLB would love to de unionize baseball altogether.
