Mill Rats drop to 2-3 with loss to Chubs

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Kokomo Creek Chubs tallied all of their 11 runs in just two innings as the visitors beat the Johnstown Mill Rats 11-6 Saturday night at Sargent's Stadium at the Point.

Kokomo Creek improve to 2-3, while Johnstown fell below .500 for the first time this season with a 2-3 mark.

Johnstown went ahead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Kokomo Creek struck for five tallied in the fourth, then added six in the seventh.

The Mill Rats added single runs in the fifth, eighth and ninth frames.

Johnstown's Ty Marsh (two RBIs) and Caleb Smith each tallied three hits for Johnstown. Marsh drove in two runs. Logan Martin added two doubles, and Jack Newman blasted a two-run homer in the third.

Mill Rats starter Kyle Moczygemba struck out three and walked seven in two scoreless innings. Reece Rupert was touched up for five runs in two frames.

Kokomo Creek's Donovan Dykas went five innings and gave up four runs. Nash Wagner (2 1/3 innings) and Jack Dykas (1 2/3) each struck out four batters in relief.

In the seventh, Kokomo Creek's Brayden Bruner blasted a grand slam with two outs to go up 11-4. Jedvier Garcia and Evan Russ each drove in two runs. Garcia and Brayden Hibler each tripled. Bruner stole two bases.

The teams meet again at 3 p.m. Sunday.
