Mike Brown compares Knicks hero Josh Hart to former Finals MVP originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Knicks took a 2-0 series lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night, winning Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals in a dominating 109-93 victory.
It was an all-around team effort from the Knicks that got them the W, but one player's efforts in particular stood out from the bunch, and that's forward Josh Hart. Cleveland dared Hart to shoot, leaving him open for several three-point opportunities.
He capitalized on those shot attempts, knocking down five of 11 three-point shots, and led New York in scoring with 26 points. Not typically known as a scorer, it was a gutsy performance from Hart.
Mike Brown compares Josh Hart to Finals MVP Andre Iguodala
At his post-game press conference, head coach Mike Brown spoke at length about Hart and the kind of player he is, and even called back to his days as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors. Brown compared the Knicks wing to former 2015 Finals MVP Andre Iguodala.
"They're different players, but they're similar players. Andre is edgy, too. Andre's a hell of a player. He's a great player, and he does so many little things that if you're not careful, you won't appreciate them. On top of that, because he's so impactful as a connector, I got to give him probably more leash than anybody else. I got to let him go be him and get out of his way," Brown told reporters.
"That's hard sometimes as a coach, because you're looking at X's and O's and you want everything to be perfect. You're looking at the box score, and you're looking at this. With Josh and with Andre, all that (expletive) should be thrown out the window because those dudes are winners."
It's high praise from Brown. Iguodala was never a superstar, but the role he played with the Warriors was necessary to their title runs. If Hart can even mimic what he was for Golden State on this Knicks team, the sky's the limit.
For Knicks fans' sake, let's hope Hart can maintain his level of play throughout the Conference Finals and into the NBA Finals.
