The New York Knicks pulled off one of the biggest comebacks in NBA playoff history on Monday night when they erased a 20-point second-half deficit against the Boston Celtics and won in overtime to take Game 1 of the series. Mikal Bridges had two steals in overtime that helped seal the win, including a strip of Jaylen Brown on the final play of the game to prevent a potential game-tying three.

On that pivotal play, Bridges looked like a cornerback tracking the ball, ripping it from Brown’s hands as soon as he caught the pass. After the game, he was asked how he managed to make that impressive defensive stop and he credited his football knowledge.

Cam Payne: “You play for the Rams?”

Bridges: “Maybe. I was telling Cam Payne over there that I was watching his eyes. I’m a football guy, so I'm just watching his eyes and following where the ball’s at and trying to get my hands as soon as I see the ball because we were up three, so we were trying to foul. So try to track the ball, see where his eyes were going to lead me and try to get the ball.”

The reporter compared him to Sauce Gardner, but he preferred a different cornerback.

“We can name somebody like Witherspoon on the Rams. I’m a Rams fan,” he said.

Fred Katz "Last play of game you stole ball…pass tracks over your head…where you looking?"

Mikal Bridges "Cam…how I track the ball?"

Cam Payne "Rams?"

MIkal "I'm a football guy…watching his eyes…"

Fred "You're Sauce Gardner"

Mikal "Witherspoon…I'm a Rams fan"

Bridges may not have the frame of a cornerback, being 6-foot-6 and 209 pounds, but his 7-foot-1 wingspan would make it incredibly difficult to complete passes over his head.

And he looked like a cornerback on that final play against the Celtics, similar to when a defensive back rips the ball from the receiver as soon as it hits his hands.

Bridges may play on the other side of the country but he'll always show love to the Rams – even in a postgame press conference after a massive postseason win.
