The best there is. This season and all others.

Mikaela Shiffrin won her sixth overall World Cup title on Wednesday, March 25, tying her with Annemarie Moser-Pröll for most by a woman. Next up: Marchel Hirscher's record of eight overall titles.

"What? Are you sure?" Shiffrin said when the title was confirmed, sinking to her knees in the finish area with fiancé Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and U.S. teammate Paula Moltzan looking on.

The overall record adds to a long list for Shiffrin. She also has the records for most total World Cup victories (110); wins in a season (17); single-season wins in a single discipline (nine); and season titles in a single discipline (nine).

She's also a three-time Olympic gold medalist, having won the slalom title at the Milano Cortina Games last month.

Shiffrin came into the season's final race, the giant slalom at the World Cup finals, with a big cushion. Her 85-point lead over Germany's Emma Aicher meant Shiffrin only needed to finish 15th or better.

To claim the overall title, Aicher would have needed to win and have Shiffrin finish 16th or lower. It was a big ask for the 22-year-old, whose best finish in a GS race was fourth place in Are, Sweden, earlier this month.

But Shiffrin made it a moot point. After finishing 17th in the first run, she skied with more purpose in the second run. It put her into first place at the time, but there were still 16 skiers left. Italy's Asja Zenere, next up, couldn't catch her. When fellow American A.J. Hurt also finished behind Shiffrin, the overall title was assured.
