Thursday wasn't just opening day for the Midland Rockhounds team. It was also the first time fans laid eyes on Momentum Bank Ballpark's all new video board in right field.
The club partnered with Daktronics to install and manufacture to the LED display, enhancing the fan experience for years to come. It measures approximately 32.5 feet high by 66 feet wide and features a 10-millimeter pixel spacing to deliver crisp, clear visual around the stadium.
The new videoboard was unveiled to Midland City Council on Mar. 26, all agreeing that the previous display was dated.
“We had a board that we couldn’t get the parts for and things like that," said Councilwoman Amy Stretcher-Burks. "So, it just shows that we’re committed to fixing things and making sure that things are done right."
However, it isn't just bigger, it's more versatile. Variable content zoning allows it to show one large image or multiple zones of content ranging from live video to instant replays, game information to statistics, and graphics and animations to sponsorship messages.
Plus, the display features industry-leading environmental protection to ensure it operates as expected in the outdoors, critical when standing in the Texas league.
“This really is going to allow us to compete with other baseball stadiums in the same league to have that competitive edge there,” said Mayor Lori Blong.
So, whether you’re cheering from the stands or watching the big screen, the Rockhounds are bringing the juice this season in style.
