LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MARCH 13: BJ Davis #10 and Magoon Gwath #0 of the San Diego State Aztecs celebrate Davis' game-winning shot against the New Mexico Lobos during the second half of a semifinal game of the Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center on March 13, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Mountain West championship game is set. No. 1 Utah State vs. No. 2 San Diego State. Today at 6 p.m. ET in Las Vegas.
So, now the question is how many bids will the conference get tomorrow on Selection Sunday? You replied overwhelmingly that we’ll have a two-bid MWC with 83% of the vote this week.

It’s pretty simple at this point. The Aztecs beat the Aggies for the auto-bid to solidify that. USU seems safely in the field and was an eight-seed in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology that updated today at noon ET. SDSU was listed as the second team out of the field.
San Diego State picked up what was essentially a March Madness elimination game win late Friday night in the semifinals, 64-62, over New Mexico. Both were trending on the wrong side of the bubble. That win gave the Aztecs third Quad-1 win of the season and helped to boost their case for inclusion.
And X was alive with that late-night action.
It's 2:47 a.m. on the east coast, and the Mountain West semifinals just wrapped up. Man, I love this month. #ThisIsMarch#WeSleepInMay

Mountain West semis at 1 a.m. ET after the power conference games are done on Friday of Champ Week, is right up there with Thanksgiving leftovers and Christmas present opening, as my favorite annual traditions

The 101st and final meeting as Mountain West opponents between San Diego St and New Mexico ends with a BJ Davis game-winning layup!
SDSU has earned a spot in the NCAA tournament with their win and kicks out New Mexico.

But also remember, this year has a historically weak bubble. The Aztecs are up against Missouri, SMU, Texas, Oklahoma and Auburn. That’s a lot of SEC teams, and each of them was part of the logjam in the middle of the standings. Nine SEC teams finished between 11-7 and 7-11 in the league. Oklahoma and Auburn were both 7-11. SMU was also under .500 in the ACC at 8-10. Definition of mid.
So, let’s reward a team like San Diego State, who won 70% of its conference games. That’s much more impressive than losing more than winning.
And let’s just enjoy this final game of the Mountain West as we know and love it. Both the Aztecs and Aggies are off to the Pac-12 next season.
The only way to honor the #SixBidMW from two seasons ago is to have the Aztecs cut down the nets to ensure a two-bid Mountain West.
The Aggies are favored by 2.5, as of early this afternoon. For all your March Madness betting needs, visit FanDuel.
