Michigan State basketball now knows its opponent for the Round of 32 in the 2026 NCAA Tournament if it can beat North Dakota State in the first round.
6-seed Louisville outlasted 11-seed South Florida in the first game of the weekend in Buffalo, New York, meaning the Spartans will face the Cardinals if they can survive and advance.
Louisville was looked at by many as a team possibly on upset alert before the NCAA Tournament but proved to be a tough matchup for the Bulls early then hung on late, winning 83-79 on Thursday, March 19.

Its the Cardinals' first NCAA Tournament win in nine years.
The good news for the Spartans if they can advance is Louisville will still be without star freshman guard Mikel Brown Jr. if they do meet up on Saturday.
Brown, one of the top recruits in the country and projected to be a lottery pick in the NBA Draft this year, has been dealing with a back injury all season and was ruled out for the games this weekend.
Brown averaged 18.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 21 games this year, but the Cardinals are relatively used to playing without their star freshman and still found a way to beat USF.
Michigan State is 6-6 all-time against Louisville, according to Basketball Reference, with the last game coming in December of 2021, with MSU winning, 73-64, at Breslin Center in East Lansing.
