A major shakeup within the Michigan State athletics department has just broke, with the university announcing that they are making a move to part ways with Alan Haller as the school's athletic director.

In a statement released to the press on the matter, Michigan State University President Kevin Guskiewicz shared his sentiments on the matter.

“I’m grateful for Alan’s leadership since I joined the university and appreciate the success our programs have seen under his leadership,” Guskiewicz said. “He is deeply committed to this university and has led with honesty and integrity.”

The decision comes at the heels of the everchanging landscape of college athletics, where some in the MSU community feel Haller has lacked.

After being appointed as the school's athletic director in September of 2021, Haller spent nearly four years in the role, making a plethora of different coaching hires that include Jonathan Smith and Adam Nightingale. Spartan athletes also posted the highest cumulative GPA in athletic department history in 2024 under his tutelage.

Haller's last day will be May 11, and Jen Smith, MSU’s deputy athletic director and senior women's administrator/compliance, will be the interim athletic director until the university finds a replacement. Tom Izzo ill also serve in a co-interim role.
