It is never too early to start forecasting two drafts ahead, but one must always, of course, take such projections with a grain of salt. It is, obviously, "early days" to say the least. The 2027 quarterback class looks pretty loaded, and when all is said and done, they might end up in the same plane as 1983. As for 2028, we don't really know how strong that will/won't be, but we do know that Michigan's Bryce Underwood leads the way.

Scour the internet for 2028 draft content and you'll quickly find that Underwood typically tops the QB rankings. And of course, if you lead the way in QB rankings, then it means you're in line to be the top overall pick, most likely. Underwood has to play in 2026 and 2027 before we get to that point, so naturally, a lot can change.

However, no one deny Underwood's natural gifts and raw talents. Some of the numbers that he put up during his freshman season were pretty meh, but he still flashed his potential on numerous occasions. Yes, his 7.2 yards per attempt was mid, his 60% completion was pedestrian and his 11-9 TD-INT ratio uninspiring, but he led Michigan to a 9-4 record as a freshman and that's just plain impressive.

He was already pretty well known, before he even threw a single pass in college, as he was rated the nation's #1 recruit in 2025.

The Detroit native was Mr. All-Everything coming out of high school, and all the blue blood programs were eager to sign him. So when then Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore landed Underwood, it was a huge victory for him and the program. It was one of very few things that Moore actually did right.

While Underwood had major star power before he even set foot on the Ann Arbor campus, his profile is set to rise another level one month from now. He was one of three UM players selected to attend 2026 Big Ten Football Media Days at the Hilton Chicago, on historic Michigan Avenue in Chicago on July 28-30.

By the time this season kickoff event concludes, a lot more people, all across the country, will have much more knowledge of Underwood.
