INDIANAPOLIS − Michigan basketball is only getting better, it seems.
Michigan led Arizona, 48-32, at halftime of its Final Four game at Lucas Oil Stadium, then received a massive pledge for the future.
Brandon McCoy Jr., a five-star class of 2026 shooting guard from Chatsworth, California (Sierra Canyon), pledged to join coach Dusty May in Ann Arbor next season − and did so live on the Fab Five's alternate broadcast, no less, calling in.
McCoy was perhaps the top uncommitted player in the current senior class, ranked the No. 3 shooting guard in the country, the No. 3 player in California and No. 14 overall player in the class according to 247 Sports' composite rankings.
McCoy, who had offers from dozens of schools including Duke, Arizona, Miami, Arizona and Alabama, joins a class that was already rated No. 6 in the country, which includes McDonald's All-American Quinn Costello, Joseph Hartmann, Malachi Brown and Marcus Moeller.
McCoy led Sierra Canyon to a 30-1 season in 2025-26 and capped it off with a state title in March. He posted a video on social media on Saturday, April 4, where he changed out of a basketball uniform, then put on a Michigan starter jacket and a pair of Cartier sunglasses known as "Buffs," which are a Detroit staple.
Michigan's class will jump even higher from its current No. 4 ranking on the 247 Sports' composite rankings, behind Duke, Michigan State and Kansas.
