The calendar turned to June this week, which means it is now arguably the biggest recruiting month of the year. The Michigan Wolverines have had a great spring so far on the trail, and there is a lot of potential for June to be a special month.
From in-state stars to big predictions coming in, we have a lot to discuss in today’s Recruiting Roundup:
Four-star OL predicted to commit to Michigan
Michigan will be hosting 2027 four-star offensive lineman Lincoln Mageo on an official visit this weekend, and it is a big one. He is one of the top targets for the coaching staff, and On3’s Ethan McDowell ($) recently put in a prediction for the Wolverines to land a commitment here.
The 6-foot-3.5, 285-pounder from California was offered by the previous coaching staff, but he has become a top target for Jim Harding on the recruiting trail. Mageo spent a weekend in Ann Arbor this spring, so this is a quick return trip for him.
Other competition for Michigan includes Texas and Washington, two schools he has official visits scheduled for the next two weekends. Hopefully Michigan can finish the job this weekend and get him to cancel those trips.
Michigan pushing for top in-state prospect
The top player in the state of Michigan in the 2027 class is five-star wide receiver Dakota Guerrant. Landing a player like him would be a major win, but is the offense going to be up to Guerrant’s standards?
“Just the best fit for me, a passing offense, a good quarterback, good head coach and then of course I want to win,” Guerrant told MLive’s Ryan Zuke ($).
Guerrant is planning to commit the first week of July, and based on his comments about Michigan’s offense, it might be tough for the Wolverines to secure a commitment.
“I really want to see if they going to throw the ball,” Guerrant said. “I mean they a good school, got all the connections in the world, but if they can’t throw the ball and they want to run the ball all day, then it just would not be a good place for a receiver.”
The good news for Michigan is that Guerrant is confident the offense is going to look different this year, and he’s confident in Bryce Underwood.
“It definitely sound like they’re going to throw the ball,” he said. “Then with Bryce, I mean you got one of the best quarterbacks in the country.”
The fall clearly matters a lot for Guerrant, so a commitment this summer doesn’t necessarily mean his recruitment will be over.
“I just want to see how teams look in the season,” he said. “I know a lot of things have changed so far, so really just trying to see what all the new stuff look like. If things change, then (signing day) could be different. But most likely, when I commit, I’ll probably stay with that school.”
Top 2028 in-state prospects breaks down Michigan interest
The best player in the state of Michigan in the 2028 class is five-star wide receiver Deandre Bidden, who attends Harper Woods High School. Bidden knows there are some advantages to staying close to home.
“If I wanted to stay home, something like that, I feel like they could be a great option for me,” Bidden recently told On3’s McDowell ($). “…They’re going to do all of that. They’re going to develop me. It’s the hometown, so they’re going to have support behind it.”
If Michigan is going to start landing guys like Guerrant and Bidden, the offense needs to show it will utilize that type of talent. Like Guerrant, Bidden expects the Wolverines to look a little bit different on that side of the ball this year.
“They’re really dedicated to who they want, and they’re starting to throw the ball a lot more,” he said. “So they’re more of an RPO team. I feel like they’re going to air the ball out a little more, use Bryce to his full potential and also the receivers they’ve got there are nice.”
For summer visits, Bidden is eyeing Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Miami and Alabama.
