Michigan basketball has reportedly found a new opponent for a marquee nonconference game this coming season.
The Wolverines are finalizing a deal to play Louisville on Dec. 5 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, according to The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman.
The matchup is expected to be part of a two-year neutral-site series where the two teams will also meet during the 2027-28 season in Indianapolis.
The news comes after Michigan’s previously announced game against Duke that was set to air on Amazon Prime fell through and appeared to be called off due to a broadcast rights dispute.
Instead, Michigan will face another ACC program in Louisville, who reached the NCAA Tournament each of the past two seasons under coach Pat Kelsey and is coming off a 24-11 campaign.
The Cardinals, like the Wolverines, are viewed as a preseason top-15 team after adding a talented group of transfers including Flory Bidunga (Kansas), Jackson Shelstad (Oregon), Karter Knox (Arkansas) and Alvaro Folgueiras (Iowa).
Michigan’s nonconference slate already includes matchups against UConn (Boston), Villanova (road) and Marquette (home) as well as at least three games in the Players Era tournament in Las Vegas.
