Purdue was hoping to reclaim itself as the best team in the Big Ten when #1 Michigan came into town.

Instead, Michigan proclaimed to college basketball that not just the Big Ten, but all of college basketball is looking up to Michigan. Dusty May’s Wolverines went into Mackey Arena and gave the Boilers a 91-80 loss.

After a back and forth start, Matt Painter’s pre-game words proved prophet. If Purdue couldn’t win the game on the glass, it wasn’t gonna be able to keep up with the Wolverines.

Purdue lost the battle on the boards, and Michigan jumped out to a double-digit lead after a 15-0 run sparked by Michigan’s offensive rebounding that fed into a hot start from three-point range.

Michigan had an 11-0 2nd chance point edge early and it spurred a 15-point leading going into half time. That’s the biggest deficit for Purdue all season at half.

Michigan finished the game shooting 13 of 23 from three while out rebounding Purdue 39-31.

Trey Kaufman-Renn led the way for Purdue scoring a game-high 27 points to go with

Braden Smith struggled in the first half before coming on in the second half, but it was an uneven performance for the All-American. Smith had 20 points and 6 assists but was 4 of 13 from the floor and had 3 turnovers.

Six different Wolverines scored in double figures for Dusty May.
