Miami junior RB Jordan Lyle arrested on charges of reckless driving and fleeing law enforcement

Miami junior running back Jordan Lyle was arrested on Thursday on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement, according to court records in Broward County, Florida.

The aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement are each felony complaints. Lyle also faces a misdemeanor complaint of reckless driving.

"We are aware of an incident involving student-athlete Jordan Lyle," a University of Miami spokesperson said in a statement on Friday, via the Miami Herald. "As due legal process runs its course, we will have no further comment at this time."

Lyle, 20, was booked into the Broward Main Jail of the Sheriff's Office on an arrest warrant from the Sunrise Police Department and was released later in the day. The charges against Lyle carry a combined $55,000 bond.

Last season as a sophomore, Lyle rushed for 108 yards and 1 touchdown on 35 carries. He was limited to six games due to a high ankle sprain suffered in the Hurricanes' season-opening 27-24 win over Notre Dame. As a freshman, Lyle compiled 400 rushing yards on 54 carries with 4 TDs.

The 6-foot, 205-pound running back was in a battle with fellow junior Char'Mar Brown, sophomore Girard Pringle Jr. and freshman Javian Mallory for the No. 2 spot on Miami's depth chart behind starter Mark Fletcher Jr., who rushed for 1,192 yards and 12 TDs last season.


Earlier this week, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal said Lyle appeared to be back to "full speed" in practices.

"I see the Jordan Lyle that we saw a year ago in many respects, but with better physical traits," Cristobal told reporters, via Canes InSight.

"Jordan has taken strength and conditioning very seriously," he added. "I think he's certainly improved his [change of direction], his excel, decel rate. He's healthy, which I think is a really important part. I don't think people really knew the extent of how banged up he was last year."

Lyle is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and came to Miami out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He was ranked as the No. 6 running back nationally by Rivals and the No. 114 player overall. Originally, Lyle committed to Ohio State before flipping to Miami.

Miami comes into the 2026-27 season ranked No. 7 after going 13-3 last season and playing for the College Football Playoff national championship.
