The Miami Hurricanes are naming Terry Jefferson their cornerbacks coach, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. He is replacing Zac Etheridge, who left to join the Arizona Cardinals after one season with Miami.
Jefferson is a Miami native and spent last season as their assistant defensive backs and nickelbacks coach. He worked closely with nickelback Keionte Scott, who emerged as one of the best defensive backs in the country and was a fourth-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2026 NFL Draft.
He spent two seasons as Jacksonville State's cornerbacks coach before joining Mario Cristobal's coaching staff ahead of the 2025 season. The Gamecocks allowed the second-fewest passing touchdowns in the conference in 2023 and were second in the league in interceptions, with Derek Carter making the All-Conference USA Second-Team.
Jefferson is in his second stint with Miami after spending three seasons with them before his time at Jacksonville State. He helped coach the defensive backs in 2022 after two years working in their recruiting and personnel departments.
He played his college football at FAMU before getting into coaching, finishing his career with 217 tackles. He was a three-time All-MEAC selection and an All-American in 2019. He attended Booker T. Washington High School.

Made an impact as an assistant DB coach/nickels coach for Miami last season. Now set to be Miami’s replacement for Zac Etheridge, who’s now with the Arizona Cardinals. https://t.co/kN8QsuhAkmpic.twitter.com/eRFJ8wCuaV
