Mario Cristobal has announced that the Miami Hurricanes have dismissed wide receiver Cam Vaughn from the team, revealing the news on WQAM’s The Joe Rose Show. He did not provide a reason why.
"Wish him the best and the Canes will press on," he said.
Vaughn transferred to Miami this offseason after spending last season with the West Virginia Mountaineers. He caught 35 passes for 540 yards and four touchdowns, leading them in all three categories. It was his first season with them after he started his career with the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.
He was considered a four-star transfer when he joined the Hurricanes. 247Sports ranked him as the 160th-best player in the portal and the 36th-best wide receiver.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder spent two seasons at Jacksonville State, signing with them as a quarterback. He played in the final three games as a true freshman in 2023, after transitioning to wide receiver. He broke out in 2024, playing in all 14 games with eight starts, and making the C-USA All-Freshman Team after leading them with 48 catches for 803 yards and five touchdowns
Vaughn was one of three wide receiver transfers that Miami added this offseason, along with Vandrevius Jacobs and Cooper Barkate, who are also four-star transfers. While his loss hurts, they should still have one of the best passing attacks in the country with quarterback Darian Mensan and wide receiver Malachi Toney leading the way.
