The Mets are trading Freddy Peralta to the Rays, ending his brief tenure in New York.

Peralta had been acquired from the Brewers this past offseason in exchange for Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat.

With Peralta a pending free agent, there was some buzz shortly after he was traded to the Mets that an extension would be worked out. But Peralta said in March that he was focused on getting to know his teammates and learning about the organization before any discussions took place.

Initially expected to front a Mets rotation that was deeper on paper than it was in 2025, things crumbled around Peralta with the freak injury to Clay Holmes, the ineffectiveness (and eventual trade) of David Peterson, the injury and ineffectiveness of Kodai Senga, the early struggles of Sean Manaea, and the inability of Jonah Tong to take the next step.
