According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the New York Mets are in agreement with Hammer on a minor league contract for 2026.

The Mets are in agreement on a two-year minor league deal with right-hander Dan Hammer, per source.

Hammer, who has been up to 97 mph, has 303 strikeouts over 249 2/3 career innings between the Orioles and Rays organizations.

Hammer, 28, went 2-4 with a 6.57 ERA in 31 games (one start) for the Rays-affiliated Montgomery Biscuits in 2025.

The right-hander posted an unsightly 2.113 WHIP (52 hits, 40 walks in 38.1 innings) but also struck out 40.

In 140 career minor league games in the Rays and Orioles (2019-24) systems, Hammer has 208 walks and 303 strikeouts across 249.2 innings.

Hammer was selected by the Rays in the minor league phase of the 2024 Rule 5 draft. After struggling in his only season with the Biscuits, Hammer became a free agent.

Now he’ll try to advance in his career with a Mets team that lost closer Edwin Diaz to the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency and is also expected to be without left-hander A.J. Minter to start the 2026 season as he continues his surgery rehab.
