The New York Mets released a former Chicago Cubs reliever from the organization on Thursday.

According to his MLB.com transactions tracker, right-hander Adbert Alzolay is no longer with the NL East club.

The 31-year-old had been pitching for New York's Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse.

In 2023 with the Cubs, Alzolay had a breakout year as a full-time reliever in Chicago's bullpen.

In 64 innings, he posted a 2.67 ERA with 67 strikeouts.

"But things went south from there. Early in 2024, his velocity was down, and he posted a 4.67 ERA over 17 1/3 innings," Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.

"He spent that summer on the injured list and required Tommy John surgery in August. The Cubs non-tendered him going into 2025," McDonald added.

Before the 2025 season, Alzolay signed a two-year minor league contract with the Mets. He did not appear in a Major League game for the club, mainly due to Tommy John Surgery.

Alzolay is now a free agent and can sign with any team that shows interest.

His breakout year with the Cubs was already three seasons ago, but not that far away for another team to see what he's got left in the tank.
