Mets' Jorge Polanco just made embarrassing mistake during rehab assignment originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
New York Mets designated hitter and first baseman Jorge Polanco is nearing a return to the Majors.
Polanco began a rehab assignment at Double-A Binghamton on Wednesday, working his way back from the injured list with a right wrist contusion.
Binghamton's coaching staff apparently did not debrief Polanco on the rules of Double-A before the 13-year veteran took his first trip to the plate.
After taking a low pitch that was called a strike, Polanco tapped his helmet to signal an ABS challenge.
There's just one issue: There's no ABS challenge system in Double-A.

It's unclear if Polanco was making an attempt at humour or if he truly didn't know the rules.
Either way, it's not the best look.
At the very least, someone on the coaching staff, or one of his short-term teammates in the dugout, should have let Polanco know.

Is it a big deal? Certainly not. The moment didn't affect the outcome of his at-bat or the game.
Polanco will have the opportunity to challenge all the pitches he wants when he returns to the Mets.
