Meet the eight automatic qualifiers for the European Solheim Cup team

European captain Anna Nordqvist made it known before the start of the AIG Women's British Open that she wouldn't pick herself. The statement had to be made after Nordqvist, a three-time major winner, kept outplaying many of the Europeans in recent weeks. After taking a share of seventh at the Amundi Evian, Nordqvist finished T-29 at the British, an event she won in 2021 at Carnoustie.

Automatic qualifying for the European team ended at the conclusion of the AIG and Swiss player Chiara Tamuburlini was knocked out after Esther Henseleit drained a 40-foot bomb for birdie on the 72nd hole to force a playoff.

That moved Henseleit into the second automatic spot, joining England's Charley Hull. It also moved Nanna Koerstz Madsen into the last of six qualifying spots off the Rolex Rankings.

Seven of the eight players who have automatically qualified are Solheim Cup veterans, with Lottie Woad the lone exception. Woad also happens to be the best player on the team in terms of ranking and form. Both Hull and Carlota Ciganda have made the most appearances with seven.

Nordqvist will announce her four captain's picks on Monday.

The 20th staging of the Solheim Cup takes place Sept. 11-13 at Bernardus Golf near Amsterdam. The U.S. leads the series 11–7–1.
