McGreevy is the first Irish competitor to win the Rajadamnern Stadium welterweight world title [BBC Sport]
Muay Thai fighter Niall McGreevy has made history by becoming the first Irish competitor to win the Rajadamnern Stadium welterweight world title.
The Belfast native defeated defending champion Tapaokaew Singmawynn by knockout in round two to become champion.
The fight took place at Rajadamnern Stadium in Bangkok, regarded as the home of the sport.
"Number one Muay Thai welterweight on the planet. My mind is blown," his coach Jamie Crawford said after the win.
"I could thank a few people on here but in fact the only person needing thanked is Niall McGreevy for taking us all on one hell of a journey."
McGreevy is also WBC Muay Thai world welterweight champion and defended his title when he beat Arjan Hajdari by unanimous decision in Glasgow.
The 27-year-old has registered 24 wins, five losses and one draw so far during his career.
"From the young kid fighting in GAA halls to being the first Irish man in Rajadamnern stadium to take a title in such style from a defending champion, to say I am proud is an understatement," Crawford continued.
"Niall, you are truly an inspiration to us all and I know there is so much more to come for you.
"One love, one Muay Thai always."
