Cooper Flagg's rookie season with the Dallas Mavericks is winding down.

The phenom from Duke isn't slowing down, though.

On Friday night, Flagg dropped 51 points, a career-high -- and the all-time record for points scored by a teenager in NBA history.

A player younger than 20 had never reached the 50-point mark until the 19-year old Flagg did it for the Mavs against the Orlando Magic.

Flagg's final stats were impressive:

  • 51 points
  • 19-30 FG
  • 6-9 3FG
  • 7-7 FT
  • 6 rebounds
  • 3 assists
  • 3 steals
  • 1 block

The 3-point shooting was particularly notable, because that's one part of Flagg's game that hasn't fully taken off in his rookie season.

If going forward he's able to knock down a better percentage of shots from beyond the arc, he'll be even that much tougher for opposing defenses to handle.

Flagg has already been plenty difficult to guard as a rookie, despite playing on a Mavs team that hasn't had the stars around him that they may have planned on when they drafted him.

The do-everything forward is the central star now. The Mavericks' future will orbit around him.

And a night like Friday's outburst won't change anyone's feelings about how bright Flagg's future truly is.
