Matthew Stafford has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL for awhile but has become even better since he joined the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
Not only did he win a Super Bowl with the team but he's also led L.A. to the playoffs almost every year he's been with the Rams.
Has all of that success rest on Stafford's shoulders? Somewhat, according to NFL analyst Warren Sharp. He ranked Stafford the 10th most-clutch quarterback since 2020. Sharp ranked these quarterbacks based on EPA per dropback when trailing in the last five minutes of a game.
"Stafford has engineered more than 40 game-winning drives in his career," Sharp said, "and was pivotal in the Rams' Super Bowl run with multiple fourth-quarter comebacks."
Stafford had two fourth-quarter comeback wins in the Rams' Super Bowl run in 2021, including three game-winning drives that included the Super Bowl win over the Cincinnati Bengals. This past season alone, Stafford have five game-winning drives in the regular season.
Here's the full list of Sharp's most-clutch quarterbacks since 2019:
A reminder: This all from the past five years. So if Goff, Smith and Flacco look strange on this list, it's only because they led some incredible comebacks. Stafford, being on a good team for all of that time, didn't have as many moments as some of the other players on this list by the nature of the roster around him.
Now, Stafford returns to a Rams team rejuvenated for another postseason run with a developing defense and great skill position players on offense between Kyren Williams, Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.
