Matheus Cunha has thrown his weight behind Michael Carrick to be handed the Manchester United job on a permanent basis. United secured an invaluable 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday, officially clinching a UEFA Champions League spot for next season.

With three Premier League games still to play, United have accomplished their goal of securing Champions League soccer, leaving Carrick as the frontrunner for the role after winning 10 of his 14 matches at the helm since replacing Ruben Amorim in January.

Amad, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko have all recently voiced their support for Carrick to be given the job, and Cunha added his name to the growing list of players who want him to remain at the helm after the Liverpool win, as per the Manchester Evening News.

When asked whether he would like Carrick to stay, Cunha said: "Yeah, yeah, honestly, I think if we need to say, I don't think it's in my hands. But what he did, he has full of confidence in the group.

"And look, I sat on the bench with him. But how he teaches everyone is amazing. I think he has the magic with, like, these [Sir Alex] Ferguson times, these kinds of things, then he comes and brings it to us.

"Teach us how it was, and yeah, to be part of everything, then he did this, it's amazing, he's a pleasure, and then of course I think he deserves it."

Cunha also noted how thrilled he was to have played a role in guiding United back to the Champions League. "You know, it's one of the biggest privileges I have to play at this club, and we know the goal of the season is to be there," he said.

"I think Champions League without this club is not the same competition, and this club without Champions League is not the same club. To be part of this, to be one of these guys... when we came in, I think there were a lot of doubts about how the club will come back. I'm so happy to be part of this."

Nevertheless, Carrick has emphasized the significance of not getting carried away with securing a Champions League berth. "Of course, of course," Cunha said of whether there was much more to come from United.

"I think when you're coming, I think to these kinds of clubs, like I said, need to be in the Champions League, but not only the Champions League, we need to fight for the titles. And of course, this is all mine.

"I think we cannot do this step bigger than the leg, and I think this is the first one, and of course, I think we could come much stronger for next season, and then we try to do what we think about."
