West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes is currently at Hotspur Way – Tottenham Hotspur training ground – for his medical today. Spurs have agreed an £85 million deal with the Hammers for the 21-year-old, paying the fee up front. The Lilywhites beat Manchester United to Fernandes, and he is set to become Roberto De Zerbi’s fifth summer addition. Tottenham have completed earlier deals for Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, Jan Paul van Hecke and Martin Dubravka.
The West Ham star is next and an announcement could be made in the coming hours. More deals are expected afterwards, with Spurs keen on also signing Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali. The North London club want quality players capable of improving their squad and fortune, and both Fernandes and his Italian counterpart fit the bill.
The Portuguese has a huge potential and could develop into the best player in his position under De Zerbi.
He has suffered back-to-back Premier League relegations with Southampton and West Ham, but his quality cannot be denied.
