Massachusetts high school sports start date for football & fall sports

The chill hasn't set in the air, but MIAA fall sports are just around the corner in Massachusetts.

Many sports will hit the field before school starts. Here's a breakdown of key dates for every fall sport:

Field hockey​

Practice starts: Monday, August 24

Games can begin: Sunday, September 6

Regular season ends: Sunday, November 1

Bracket release: Tuesday, November 3

State tournament begins: Thursday, November 5 (Can be played Nov. 4 if both teams agree)

State finals: November 20-21

High school football​

Practice starts: Monday, August 24

Games can begin: Thursday, September 10

Regular season ends: Saturday, October 31

Bracket release: Sunday, November 1

State tournament begins: Friday, November 6

Thanksgiving: Thursday, November 26

Super Bowls: TBA (Historically first weekend in December at Gillette Stadium)

Golf​

Practice starts: Monday, August 24

Tournament entry deadline: Friday, October 9

Cutoff date: Thursday, October 15
