Marquette men's basketball coach Shaka Smart made it official that junior guard Sean Jones will miss the rest of the season with a turf toe injury on his left foot.
"Just the timing doesn't work out for him to be physically able," Smart said after MU's 76-70 loss to St. John's on Feb. 18. "So he'll be unavailable for us the rest of the year."
Jones' return seemed unlikely when Smart provided an update on Jones on Feb. 8, saying that the guard hadn't been cleared for contact yet.

Jones suffered the injury in practice before the Golden Eagles' game at Connecticut on Jan. 4. It was the latest in a string of maladies that have plagued Jones at MU.
The 5-foot-10 guard missed six games earlier this season with a right shoulder injury. Before this season, he had been rehabbing a devastating knee injury suffered on Jan. 10, 2024. Jones also was bothered by a wrist injury as a freshman in the 2025-26 season.
Jones played in eight games this season. Since he redshirted last season while coming back from his knee injury, Jones would need to apply for a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA to regain a year of eligibility.
"Those are all things that come retroactively," Smart said.
