Trying to scratch and claw their way back to the postseason, the Miami Marlins' trade for the Chicago Cubs' No. 1 prospect Owen Caissie was one they felt comfortable making.

They parted ways with starting pitcher Edward Cabrera, who will now join a Cubs rotation that includes Matthew Boyd and ***** Imanaga.

"Outfielder Owen Caissie, previously the Chicago Cubs’ No. 1 prospect, fits the Marlins’ lineup well and offers massive upside," The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon wrote Saturday. "The Marlins acquired two other young players in the trade. And their starting-pitching depth might allow them to absorb the loss of Cabrera without a significant dropoff."

Without Cabrera, Miami still has Eury Perez, Ryan Weathers, Braxton Garrett, and Max Meyer as rotation depth at the Major League level.

The Marlins feel confident about their roster​

While the Marlins may not be in the running for the top position players available in free agency, Rosenthal and Sammon report that the NL East club feels good about how their lineup is taking shape.

"Caissie’s presence among the Marlins’ position players raises the bar for any potential lineup additions. Miami likes a lot of its young players, and won’t block them for the sake of a veteran presence."

Their report included that while the Marlins could make other pitchers available in trade talks, former Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara is likely staying put.
