Marlins’ Sandy Alcantara hits franchise low in brutal performance vs. Blue Jays appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara did not have a great start against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
Check that.
Alcantara had a horrible evening versus the reigning American League champions. In 5.2 innings of work on the mound, the 30-year-old right-hander was hammered by Toronto for eight earned runs on 10 hits with a walk and four strikeouts in an 8-1 Marlins loss.
It simply was one of those nights for Alcantara, who also became the first player in Miami franchise history to surrender at least 10 hits, surrender eight earned runs, give up three home runs and have three HBPs, according to StatMuse.
Where the wheels fully fell off for Alcantara in the game was when he gave up his first career grand slam on a pitch to his former Marlins teammate Jesus Sanchez in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Moreover, the former National League Cy Young Award winner became the first MLB pitcher to have such a brutal start since Cincinnati Reds southpaw hurler Nick Lodolo in the 2023 MLB season.
It was the second bad start in a row for Alcantara. In a previous start, he was charged with six earned runs on nine hits (two home runs) in six innings of work during a 9-3 defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Braves at home last week. Alcantara now carries a 3-4 record with a 4.66 ERA.
The loss to Toronto snapped Miami’s four-game winning streak, but the Marlins can bounce right back as soon as Wednesday, when they play the series finale.
