The Seattle Mariners have adding a side-winding right-handed pitcher in a small trade.

On Friday, they sent cash considerations to the New York Mets for Cooper Criswell. Criswell had been designated for assignment by the Mets to clear roster space for newly acquired Freddy Peralta.

The Mets had just acquired Criswell off waivers from the Boston Red Sox in December, and now he moves on again.

Criswell 29 years old and pitched in seven games for the Red Sox in 2025, going 17.2 innings and putting up a 3.57 ERA.

He has pitched 154.2 innings total in his MLB career with an ERA of 4.48. Criswell has also pitched for the Angels and Rays.

Criswell was effective in Triple-A in 2025 for the Worcester Red Sox, throwing 65.2 innings with a 3.70 ERA.

At this rate, there are no promises that Criswell gets to stick around long.

But he'd be a fun addition to the Seattle bullpen. There aren't a lot of pitchers who throw like this anymore.

The Mets probably figured they might lose Criswell when they put him on waivers, since they had just wanted him in that manner in the first place.

Now it's another new start for Criswell, who will probably just stand pat until Spring Training when he knows where he's supposed to show up.
